Blake CSA 2010-2011 Highlights and Accomplishments
The Blake CSA is proud to report that the following programs and purchases were made possible by our many volunteers and supporters. Thank you all for helping us enrich the education of our youth here at Blake.

Strategic Planning:

  • Researched and selected a speaker, child psychologist Sue Blaney for fall 2011 presentation to parents
  • Communicated CSA news to parents via the Blake Newsflash
  • Updated and maintained the CSA website and calendar in an ongoing effort to improve communication between the school and parents
  • Set aside funds for the 2011/2012 school year

Funded Programs:

  • Author visit from Yoko Kawashima Watkins for 7th graders
  • Shakespeare Now Theatre performance (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for 6th graders
  • Higgins Armory presentation related to the Middle Ages unit for 8th graders
  • Latino Dance troupe La Pinata for 8th graders
  • Scholarships for Washington DC 8th grade and Nature’s Classroom 7th grade trips
  • Career Day breakfast held for 8th graders
  • Author visit from Eric Berlin for all school read selection
  • Beautified Courtyard with CSA monies and a volunteer committee

Fundraising:

  • Organized summer reading book sale, proceeds from which go to the literacy fund and library book purchases
  • Managed SCRIP sales, which this year funded the purchase of two InFocus projectors and 24 replacement laptop computers (12 of which were co-funded with MCPE) as well as trip scholarships
  • Organized fundraisers to help families offset the cost of both the Nature’s Classroom via SCRIP and the 8th grade trip, including Meadow Farms gift wrap and Classic Cookies brand cookie dough sales and SCRIP
  • Organized NSTAR sale of light bulbs for a second year in connection with Earth Day, all proceeds from which came back to the CSA
  • Managed Royal Pizza night on the first Monday of each month
  • Arranged with Subway to hold a Blake fundraiser the 3rd Tuesday of each month giving 20% of receipts back to Blake
  • Continued collection of General Mills Box tops to raise funds for the CSA

Teacher Appreciation:

  • Provided bi-monthly breakfasts to the teachers and staff to promote goodwill and collegiality
  • Gave gifts to administrative staff in recognition of their help to CSA
  • Sponsored teacher luncheons and teacher appreciation week efforts
  • Co-ordinated with the Boosters a year end barbeque lunch for Blake and High School staff

Treats for Students:

  • Snacks during MCAS testing, including Ronnie’s Slush at completion
  • 8th grade cookout and closing ceremony reception
  • 7th grade ice cream social on June 21

Supplies:

  • Funded Nurse’s office for purchase of crackers, ginger ale and water for sick students
